2010 PBA DRAFT: WHAT THEY NEED - AIR21 EXPRESS

(Note: This is the first of 10 installments)
Last year, Air21 also had the top pick and they decided to pick the best player.

That player turned out to be Japeth Aguilar.

Unfortunately for the Express, Japeth decided to not play for them.

Well that sucked.

TEAM STATS:
PHILIPPINE CUP: WILDCARD ROUND
FIESTA CUP: WILDCARD ROUND

DRAFT PICKS:
FIRST ROUND: FIRST, SECOND, THIRD, AND SIXTH
SECOND ROUND: SEVENTEENTH AND NINTEENTH

CURRENT DEPTH CHART:
TOP 5: WYNNE ARBOLEDA, RONJAY BUENAFE (pictured), LEO NAJORDA, RONNIE MATIAS, CARLO SHARMA
RELIEF: JOSH URBIZTONDO, RENREN RITUALO, WESLEY GONZALES, RICH ALVAREZ, JR QUINAHAN

WHAT THEY NEED:
It is no secret that the Express will use their picks to beef up their frontcourt. The acquisition of RABEH AL-HUSSAINI will give Air21 a scoring big man while NONOY BACLAO will be a great addition as a dominant defensive clamp. With their abundance of picks, it would be best for Air21 to shore up their scoring options. ELMER ESPIRITU is a good choice if they want a scoring big while JIMBO AQUINO, SEAN ANTHONY, or JOSH VANLANDINGHAM can give this team a different dimension in the SG/SF spots. As for their second round picks, just like their sixth pick, they could just give this up for Barako Bull or Coke for a draft pick either in 2011 or 2012 (this is where the Gilas guys could apply in the draft).

Yeng Guiao is not the type of coach who’ll pick up players that he cannot use. And yet, I expect him to barter these kids for cogs of the future.

Game over.
