2010 PBA DRAFT: WHAT THEY NEED - BMEG DERBY ACE LLAMADOS

(Note: This is the fourth of ten installments)

Of all the SMC franchises, BMEG was the most “beatable”.

But for some insane reason, they had the drive to win games.

Who knew James Yap would become a two-time MVP despite his marital problems? Who knew Rafi Reavis would become the awesome force he became when he was traded by Ginebra? And who would ever think that Marc Pingris and Paul Artadi will have a renewed drive with their reunion with Ryan Gregorio???

Too bad that reunion was short-lived… because what they did last season certainly made heads turn.

TEAM STATS:
PHILIPPINE CUP: TOURNAMENT WINNER
FIESTA CUP: SEMIFINALS

DRAFT PICKS:
FIRST ROUND: NINTH

CURRENT DEPTH CHART:
TOP 5: ROGER YAP, JAMES YAP, MARC PINGRIS, KERBY RAYMUNDO, RAFI REAVIS
RELIEF: PAUL ARTADI, PETER JUNE SIMON, KG CANALETA, RICO MAIERHOFER, DON ALLADO

WHAT THEY NEED:
With their chemistry, BMEG is almost unstoppable. However, with Pingris and Raymundo playing hurt, they need to beef up their size. But maybe with George Gallent at helm, he would prefer a new setup in their execution, maybe look for a defensive specialist at the SG/SF spot or an offensive player from that same position mentioned. Don Allado, Jondan Salvador and Romel Adducul could flourish under this new coaching staff which will give the Llamados an option to shore up their scoring. I could see them struggling at first but perhaps when guys like JOHN WILSON, RJ JAZUL, REY GUEVARRA, MARVIN HAYES, or KHASIM MIRZA get key roles, they can be again the team to beat this season.

George Gallent will have something to prove this season. So are the former players of Ryan Gregorio after Coach Ryan fled to Meralco. Gallent once lead Harbour Centre to consecutive championships and this is his chance to score big in the major league.

Game over.
