Fear Pacman

Sunday news wouldn’t be boring.

People will be less cranky.

Everyone’s optimism would be up a notch.

For a moment, we will forget about the problems Noynoy Aquino’s government is facing right now... and perhaps his love life too.

That my friends, is how a typical Pacquiao Sunday in the Philippines would be spent!

We have seen the various stories from news and sports sites about how Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito are tasked to slug it out to whether or not The Fighting Pride of the Philippines can clinch an eighth title.

It seems as if Pacquiao’s mind was in so many places at the start of training camp and this didn’t sit well with Bob Arum and Freddie Roach. We have heard of stories of how the Tijuana Tornado is bent on training to cash in on a huge chunk of dough. Roach would jab barbs with the Margarito camp and Antonio’s camp would mock it – an example of which was the metal gloves.

And then Margarito’s camp had to drag the Parkinson’s thing on Roach.

This did not sit well with Pacquiao.

Last night I saw a Pacquiao documentary at the Bio Channel. Manny has been regarding Roach as his father figure and it seems as if Manny is Roach’s extension inside the ring. The Parkinson’s insult was uncalled for. I have an uncle suffering from it and once you get nervous, you tend to shake uncontrollably. Perhaps this is also the same things Michael J. Fox and Muhammad Ali endures day in and day out.

The last time Pacquiao fought a fighter that insulted Roach, the last ring action this fighter did was drop face first in the ring.

Conditioning will play a major role in this battle. Pacquiao will face his biggest opponent yet at 5’11 but how “big” will Margarito when they fight? The problem with these big fighters is that to make the catch weight, they have to crash their training. And all of a sudden, a couple of people will be shocked anew when they see Pacquiao “bulked up” and his foe “dehydrated”.

Pacquiao is the most exciting fighter this era brought and amidst of all his projects, this boxer-turned-model-turned-actor-turned-singer-turned-businessman-turned-politician will find time to dig deep from his amazing array of skills and to drown his opponents with unforgiving fists.

His power and speed is the best thing right now in boxing and I expect him to make the Filipino people proud.

Did I mention that when he fights all warring factions in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao halt?

Game on!
