The Statmonkey of the Day: January 17, 2011

Diaw is a great fantasy option if he tries to be one.

When Boris Diaw played for the Phoenix Suns, he was a stat monkey. He barely scores 20 points and up but he can light it up in terms of rebounds and assists. He can play all five positions with relative ease and this creates mismatches for the opposing teams.

When he was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats however, it seems as if his growth as a star regressed. He was no longer the special talent and it seems as if he gets the job done only because Mike D’Antoni motivates him.

Sure. That’s the case. However...

... There are times that he can still be the Statmonkey of the Day...

... Just like now.

There are two players who scored triple-double games this day:

Derrick Rose had 22 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists, a steal, and a block as the Chicago Bulls defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, 96 to 84.

However, in Charlotte’s loss against the Philadelphia 76ers, Diaw had 25 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists, 2 blocks and a steal!

Winning by a slight edge, the Frenchman takes the cake.

Aside from Rose, leading contenders were Blake Griffin, Russell Westbrook, and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Game over!
