Mighty Mouse went berserk in Game 5 |
Dorian Pena was about to go violently to Jason Castro when Ali Peek steps in to HUG one of the biggest players in the league
today.
Ali
Peek was called for a technical foul excessive hugging.
Yes
you heard it.
Quinito Henson was trying to defend to Mico Halili that the hug was without
malice. Dorian Pena couldn’t escape the hold and Ali Peek had it locked in as
if he’s going to take Pena down.
San Miguel
struck early in the first quarter, 23 to
14 but Talk N Text outscored the Beermen in the second quarter by securing 38 points compared to SMB’s 21. Jason Castro, Ryan Reyes, and Jimmy Alapag
had 30 points in the second half
alone. Ranidel De Ocampo also scored
ten points thanks to Jimmy Alapag’s six assists
in the first half.
Worse,
the last points of the half was Ali Peek’s jump shot which came seconds after
he was called for a technical foul for excessive hugging!
That
scenario set up the total ownage that sent
the Tropang Texters to a 3 to 2 lead over San Miguel.
The
match ended 99 to 77, in favor of
the Tropang Texters. San Miguel showed signs of life in the third quarter but the
Texters were able to stretch the lead to a high of 23 with Larry Fonacier scoring three straight triples, Kelly Williams making Jay Washington’s life hard, and Jared Dillinger attacking the defense.
Ryan
Reyes, who usually plays the PG/SG spot, played well in defending against Washington.
The
mere fact that we’re seeing Joseph Yeo,
Denok Miranda, and Mick Pennisi in the court meant San Miguel has already
given up.
The
only good thing to see for San Miguel in Game
5 was Sam Pinto.
Seven players scored 9 and more for the Texters led by De
Ocampo’s 20. Jimmy Alapag made life easy for his squad by scoring 16 points, dishing 10 assists, grabbing 7
rebounds, and converting 3 triples. Jason Castro also played an all-around
game with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 8
assists, 1 steal, and 2 triples. Actually, Ryan Reyes too played superb with
10 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2
triples! Ali Peek, Larry Fonacier, and Jared Dillinger have 9 points each.
Arwind Santos and Jay
Washington had
18 points apiece but they were a combined 15-out-of-34
from the field. Alex Cabagnot, which
was the recipient of the really awful Crunchman
tag (it seems like he’s a caveman), was limited to only two points with 1-of-9 shooting. Santos also had 11 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks
while J-Wash also has 12 rebounds and 4
assists. Aside from Santos and Washington, Dondon Hontiveros was the only other double-digit scorer with 14 points.
For
San Miguel, if they can win Game 6, they will have momentum to carry on Game 7.
Of course,
Talk N Text doesn’t want that and for the Texters, they need to finish this on
Friday.
Game
over!
