You
know...
Kirk Douglas is awesome.
Sure,
I don’t know much about him except that he is Michael Douglas’ father. However, if you act like a grumpy old,
senile man, prolong the spiel for the Best
Supporting Actress awarding, and upstage the eventual Best Supporting
Actress... AND GET AWAY WITH IT...
It
means that Kirk Douglas is awesome in my book!
It was
in 1949 when he was first nominated
for an Oscar. He was nominated
thrice as Best Actor for Champion (1949),
Bad and the Beautiful (1952), and Lust for Life (1956) but he never won
the award. He did receive an Honorary
Oscar in 1995 and he is listed as Number
17 in the American Film Institute’s All-Time Best Actors’ list. I remember
him in Spartacus as well as 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.
At 94, he was tasked to present the Best
Supporting Actress award and while his speech is somewhat garbled, his antics
endeared him with the audience.
Well,
after Kirk was escorted out of the stage, eventual winner Melissa Leo managed to get the attention to her.
She
got that through cursing.
It was
so unforeseen.
Fact
is though... if you’re an A-Lister or an Academy Award winner... you can do no
wrong.
By the
way, check out this link for the rest of the Oscar
winners.
Game
over.
