I’m
going to do a list on what I’d expect on the citations to be handed down during
the 2011 NBA Playoffs.
So
without further adieu...
Game
starts now.
MVP: DERRICK ROSE
Let’s
see... D-Rose played for a team under a new coach as well as new
reinforcements. The difference here is that he blossomed under the new coach
and the new reinforcements kind of suck at times. I mean no disrespect to Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer but Chicago
was fine even if those two were injured for extended periods of time.
NBA ALL-NBA FIRST TEAM:
DERRICK ROSE, KEVIN DURANT,
LEBRON JAMES, DIRK NOWITZKI, DWIGHT HOWARD
Rose
is here because he’s my hands down MVP.
Kevin Durant is spearheading
little-known Oklahoma City’s drive
to the top of the rankings. Lebron James
had four triple-doubles this season and he still managed to get his stats
despite having two other superstars in his team. Dirk Nowitzki is Dallas’
major boytoy at the moment and while I doubt if Dallas can score the title, he
is giving his team a strong showing. Dwight
Howard is a very strong force in the inside and he led the league in
double-doubles this season. Sure, the Daily Double is a technical foul magnet –
you are allowed to be emotional if he plays insanely good and awesomely
aggressive.
NBA ALL-NBA SECOND TEAM:
KOBE BRYANT, DWYANE WADE, AMAR’E
STOUDEMIRE, PAU GASOL, CHRIS PAUL
Kobe Bryant could see himself in the first
team but with Rose, James, and Durant bringing in significant contributions, I
doubt if they’ll have a fourth slasher in the Mythical 5. Dwyane Wade had a strong showing for the Heat even if he became
second fiddle for LBJ. Amar’e Stoudemire
gave New York a playoff spot which have eluded them ever since the Allan Houston era. Eww. Pau Gasol gave the Lakers stability in
the frontline even if Kobe sometimes diss him for lack of offensive
productivity. And as for Chris Paul –
CP3 is in a team that has no right to be in the playoffs and yet it did – and this
speaks volumes on his leadership and potential to succeed once he moves out of
NOLA.
NBA ALL-NBA THIRD TEAM:
CARMELO ANTHONY, BLAKE GRIFFIN,
RUSSELL WESTBROOK, LAMARCUS ALDRIDGE, MANU GINOBILI
Carmelo Anthony was able to bridge a great
time in Denver as well as an awesome
time of New York. Blake Griffin is a monster and he gave
a valid reason to watch the Clippers
in action. Russell Westbrook gave
the Thunder another go-to-guy. LaMarcus
Aldridge placed the Blazers to
the playoffs despite missing Brandon Roy
and Greg Oden. Manu Ginobili is the saving grace of San Antonio despite the injuries to Tony Parker and the aging of Tim
Duncan.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: BLAKE
GRIFFIN
Griffin
is an amazing talent and this season he wanted to tell everyone that he not a
mere hype. He wowed everyone with his skills and hell, he even jumped on a car.
John Wall played like a top pick but
Griff played better. He is the only choice to win the plum.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR:
DWIGHT HOWARD
The
Daily Double is a monster on the boards and while his scoring is up, his
defense is what makes him stand out. He has size but he also has speed to swat
blocks and snatch boards. He is like a speedier version of Dikembe Mutombo and that’s awesome.
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER: RUSSELL
WESTBROOK
For
OKC to get to where they are right now, they must find a way to take the load
of Kevin Durant and Westbrook did just that. All of a sudden, Westbrook joined
the ranks of Rose, Paul, Deron Williams,
and Steve Nash as the league’s top
quarterbacks.
COACH OF THE YEAR: GREGG
POPOVICH
It’s
not that I can’t spell the Bulls’ coach. That Tom guy made Chicago a
contender. However, it was elementary for a squad with that talent to reach the
top of the standings regardless of the injuries. San Antonio on the other hand
is basically an old team but with retooled combinations. Tim Duncan’s minutes
have become less and less and the old guys are playing well with more
pronounced roles. Gregg Popovich is a genius.
So
here it is. Hopefully most of my predictions come up right.
Until
then...
Game
over.
