If you have tickets to the NBA vs PBA event - I hate you!

Kobe Bryant and the rest of the NBA selection will play the PBA selection on Saturday and the Smart-Gilas Team Pilipinas on Sunday.

For the people sitting courtside and to some extent those sitting near the people sitting courtside...

I hate you all.

I hate you all for laying waste of 1978 – or the last year where active NBA All-Stars combined to give the crowd a masterful performance. A team of PBA All-Stars headlined by Robert Jaworski, Ramon Fernandez, Atoy Co, and Bogs Adornado faced off against former Rookie MVP Wes Unseld, many-time all-star Elvin Hayes and the core of the NBA Champs Washington Bullets. Javale McGee is representing Washington (now called the Wizards) which basically is to admire the consistency and he shares that status with Bryant and fellow Los Angeles Lakers teammate Derek Fisher, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant and James Harden, New Orleans Hornets’ Chris Paul, Sacramento Kings’ Tyreke Evans, Minnesota Timberwolves’ Derrick Williams, and Chicago Bulls star and current MVP Derrick Rose.

By the way, the games will be played inside the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Manny V. Pangilinan is that loaded?

PBA players posing as the NBA selection’s dreaded foes are Talk N Text’s Jason Castro, Ryan Reyes, and Larry Fonacier, Ginebra’s Mark Caguioa and JC Intal, Petron’s Arwind Santos and Rabeh Al-Hussaini, B-Meg’s James Yap and Marc Pingris, Alaska’s Sonny Thoss and LA Tenorio, Powerade’s Gary David, Rain or Shine’s Gabe Norwood, and Air21’s Danny Seigle.

Meanwhile, Smart-Gilas will have Jimmy Alapag, Kelly Williams, Asi Taulava, and Dondon Hontiveros to backstop Chris Tiu, Mac Baracael, JV Casio, Marcio Lassiter, Chris Lutz, Dylan Ababou, Jason Ballesteros, and Japeth Aguilar. Ranidel de Ocampo, the team’s latest addition did not play in TNT’s last game and hopefully he is available for that one-of-a-kind encounter. I doubt if this is a rightful test for Rajko Toroman and his wards considering that most of the NBA stars would rather treat this as an enjoyable encounter rather than have a playoff-flavored atmosphere.

Besides, the reason why these players have their free time is that of the lockout. The lockout’s pros are that players can freely play for other squads but the disadvantage of this is that they will be playing minus the insurance. The last thing these players want is to play the next season injury-plagued or worse... sitting it out entirely.

It’s not as if I want to buy the ticket though. Come to think of it, with that kind of price, I would have readily watched the match on TV. But there’s this certain type of aura undeniably captured to see these kinds of stars. Besides this isn’t like last year when Chris Webber, Glen Rice, Mitch Richmond, and others came to Manila long after they retired or when Dennis Rodman came here with a bunch of journeymen.

This is like the awesome thing to catch at this moment.

Although... one awesome thing they could do is insert Allan Caidic on the squad and mesmerize the NBA stars with his brilliant shooting as what was witnessed by Rice and the guys of last year!

By the way, as he prepares for his SONA, President Noynoy Aquino is scheduled to attend the event! For the NBA stars, they are hoping to check out a bunch of Manila hotspots and perhaps find a way to getting a Manny Pacquiao autograph!

Damn those happy bastards who are set to enjoy the Smart Ultimate All-Star Weekend!

Game over!
