Ever
since I got hold of the current Hardcourt
issue (aka Hardcourt’s last season’s issue), which is basically a handbook
on the ways of the PBA, I have been trying to do an ultimate article on what is
inside the book.
And I
came out with this!
The 100 best careers in the PBA!
Basically
this contains the best players to ever play in the league. But the thing is, I
wrote it as “the best careers” and not the “greatest players” to not get people
to torch my ass with my selections.
THE SYDRIFIED
ACCUMULATED POINTS SYSTEM
With
the help of your researched stats and Microsoft
Excel, you yourselves could come up with this!
STEP 1: RESEARCH! I got my stats from
the PBA Hardcourt Annual, the PBA
website, PBFantasy, and Wikipedia.
STEP 2: Only players with either 150 games (which pretty much translates
to 6 or 7 seasons) or any of these achievements (2,500 points, 3,000 rebounds, or 1,000 assists) are allowed in this
list. Current PBA players (as of the 2009-10 season) will make use of their
available stats. This list will also consider past MVP, Mythical 5 and Mythical 10 winners regardless if they pulled
off the said achievements.
Since
there is no new Hardcourt issue available but we know the 2011 Leo Awardees, they are also included as well.
STEP 3: You have to get the product of
their career totals with the use of an “altered” PBFantasy equation. Basically
the equation is like this:
TOTAL POINTS (1.25) x TOTAL
REBOUNDS (1.5) x TOTAL ASSISTS (2) x TOTAL STEALS (2.5) x TOTAL BLOCKS (2.5)
I
altered the points multiplier from 1 to 1.25 because let’s face it, there is no
PBA player past or present that average 25ppg, 10rpg, and even 6apg. A player
is an automatic star by only scoring in double figures!
If a
player lacks a stat, they will be given the lowest possible scorer which is
below the quota. The lowest possible score for total points will be 1800 while
it will be 1000 for total rebounds, 600 for total assists, and 200 for total
steals and blocks. As for the total steals and blocks, it all depends on how
their playing style looks like. For example, if Willie Generalao has incomplete data in steals and blocks, I’m just
going to rely on gut that he can have 200 steals but unfortunately will never
have 200 blocks. Jimmy Alapag,
despite playing a little under 400 games, could only produce 4 blocks in his
career.
STEP 4: Divide the TOTALS with the
player’s TOTAL GAMES.
STEP 5: Afterwards, add the results of
STEP 4 with the list of their achievements. For example, if Ramon Fernandez
ends up with 51.26, then you need to add these bonus points.
