Team Pilipinas finished with a 3-2 win-loss record at the
2018 Jakarta Asiad. We won against Kazakhstan but lost against China in the preliminaries
but saw our dreams get crushed by the Koreans in the quarterfinals (for the nth
time). The team may have had Jordan Clarkson but lost the entire Gilas core to
injuries and suspension.
Yeng Guiao was tasked to replace Chot Reyes and has been at
the helm ever since.
It hasn’t been pretty.
In the second round of qualifiers, Guiao piloted Gilas to a
3-3 finish. Losing to Kazakhstan was a huge downer. We aren’t supposed to lose
to the Kazakhs in our best form. In fact, the only way these guys win is if we’re
extremely disillusioned like what happened in Busan when Olsen Racela missed
two free throws and Lee Sang Min went on to unleash that dagger three.
I can’t see the broadcasters raising our hopes with the
Olympic possibility if we’re going to the big dance with this kind of
performance.
I feel it’s better for us to JUST win in SEABA than lose in the
World Cup.
Level up in competition?
Not with this kind of roster.
It sucks to be a pessimist but it’s hard to yearn for Pinoy
pride when you’re down by 40… or 50… or whatever.
I am so upset with the team right now that I may even do an
article on how I hate this incarnation.
Let’s see what happens with their Iran match.
